Seachem Flourish Iron is a concentrated iron supplement (a highly available ferrous gluconate form) for plants that need more iron than a comprehensive supplement alone provides. Iron is essential for chlorophyll and is especially important for red and color-demanding plants — the Ludwigia, Rotala, and similar species whose deep reds and oranges depend on it.
Where It Fits: Add Flourish Iron when you see the classic iron-deficiency sign: yellowing in new growth while older leaves stay green (interveinal chlorosis). It's the targeted booster for red plants in bright, fast-growing tanks that burn through iron, used alongside — not instead of — your comprehensive supplement.
A Word of Caution: Don't reach for iron to fix an algae-plagued tank — excess iron is one of the drivers of cyanobacteria and hair-algae blooms. Dose to the plants' actual need, address the real cause of a deficiency first (exhausted substrate, light outpacing CO₂ and nutrients), and a test kit helps keep iron in range.
Dosing Guidelines: Use 1 capful (5 mL) per 50 gallons, or as needed to hold roughly 0.10 mg/L iron — about 1 mL for a 10-gallon tank, 2 mL for a 20-gallon, dosed daily or every other day for demanding red plants. Each cap thread is about 1 mL for small tanks.
