Zoo Med Grapevine Wood
Zoo Med Grapevine Wood is a twisting, characterful natural wood with a gnarled, vine-like form. While it's widely used in terrariums and vivariums for climbing reptiles and amphibians, its sculptural shapes also make interesting aquascape and paludarium features. Available in M and L.
Good to Know: One honest note for aquarium use: grapevine wood is relatively soft and tends to break down and grow fungus faster than dense aquarium woods like mopani — so it's often best in terrariums, paludariums, and the emersed (above-water) parts of a scape, or as a temporary/decorative piece, rather than a permanent submerged centerpiece. It's a lovely natural form for the right application.
Preparation: New driftwood leaches tannins that tint the water a natural tea color (harmless, and many aquascapers love the blackwater look). To reduce it, soak the wood for a few days to a couple of weeks, changing the water, before adding it. Most woods need weighting or anchoring until waterlogged enough to sink.
Each piece is natural and one-of-a-kind, so size, shape, and color vary — part of the appeal when building a unique scape.
