Longhorn Wood is a material of presence. With sweeping, horn-like extensions and dense organic volume, it evokes the raw expression of large fallen trunks and twisted limbs in wild terrain. Its dark, earthy tones and untamed textures bring boldness to your aquascape or terrarium.
This wood is incredibly dense-most pieces sink immediately upon immersion, allowing for direct integration into your scape without extended soaking or anchoring. Each piece is unique, offering natural curves, expressive grain, and sculptural profiles perfect for ryoboku or expressive jungle styles.
Available in Small (10–20 cm), Medium (20–30 cm), and Large (30–50 cm), Longhorn Wood offers design possibilities from accenting nano tanks to composing centerpiece structures in large-scale layouts.
The WIO difference: Each Longhorn Wood piece is hand-selected for its sculptural quality and natural horn-like form-bringing wild expression and natural weight into your design.

Usage
Preparation and Handling Precautions
- Curing Optional: Longhorn Wood sinks immediately in most cases. For livestock setups, curing is still recommended.
-
Basic Curing:
- Soak in warm water for 24–48 hours.
- Rinse thoroughly before placement. -
Intensive Curing (for sensitive systems):
- Boil for 30–60 minutes to reduce initial tannins.
- Continue soaking with daily water changes until clear. - Gradual Introduction:Introduce slowly in small aquariums and monitor parameters.
Initial Buoyancy
- Due to its natural density, Longhorn Wood typically requires no soaking. If needed, use WIO ScapeGlue Kits or anchors to secure placement temporarily.
Natural Organic Material
- Expect unique variation-each piece is shaped by nature, with its own curves, surface markings, and weight.
Water Monitoring
- Tannin release may occur briefly.
- Maintain kH ≥ 3 to buffer and stabilize pH.
- Test pH, kH, and gH weekly during setup.
- Partial water changes help manage tinting.
- Temporary biofilm or saprolegnia may appear-this is normal and will subside.
Placement
- Dramatic & Grounded: Use horizontally for trunk effects or upright for expressive horned structures.
- Pair with ferns, mosses, or low-cover plants to emphasize the raw beauty.
- Perfect for jungle, ryoboku, or wild-style layouts.
