White Skirt Tetra
White Skirt Tetra
White Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) is the albino/white form of the Black Skirt Tetra — a popular and widely kept tetra whose flowing, skirt-like lower fins are the defining visual feature. The white form replaces the standard dark grey-black with pale white to silver. Named for naturalist C.H. Turner-Ternetz.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the Paraguay basin in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay — one of the most widely distributed and adaptable of all aquarium tetras. Tolerates a very wide range of water conditions.
Keep in groups of at least 6. Known to be mild fin-nippers in small groups — keep 10 or more to distribute social energy. The flowing skirt fins are susceptible to fin-nipping from other species.
One of the hardiest tetras available — the White Skirt form brings the same reliable hardiness in a lighter coloration that shows up dramatically against dark substrate.
