Watersprite Lace Leaf
Watersprite Lace Leaf
Watersprite Lace Leaf is a finely divided, ornate variant of Watersprite producing delicately cut, lacy fronds that create a more decorative and textured appearance than the standard Watersprite form. The deeply divided leaf margins of Lace Leaf add fine textural richness to both planted and floating growth, creating a more visually complex and elegant Watersprite variety for aquarists who want the fast growth and practical benefits of Watersprite with added botanical refinement.
Planting tip: Watersprite Lace Leaf should be attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape with the rhizome or roots fully exposed — never buried in substrate. Use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Like all Watersprite species, Lace Leaf can be grown planted in the substrate as a midground to background plant or allowed to float freely at the water surface. Floating growth is typically faster and more vigorous, creating a dense, lacy surface mat that provides natural cover and shade. Planted growth creates more structured background planting with the same nutrient absorption and shelter benefits. Small plantlets develop on mature fronds and propagate the plant naturally.
Watersprite Lace Leaf grows in medium lighting with low CO₂ needs. Temperatures between 68 and 82°F and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. As a fast grower, it benefits from regular fertilization to support continuous frond production. The lacy leaf division is most fully expressed in healthy, well-fed plants — nutritional deficiency can produce less finely divided leaves that lack the full ornamental character of this variety.
In the aquascape, Watersprite Lace Leaf provides fast, finely textured background or floating coverage with natural shelter and nutrient uptake capacity. The lacy fronds add a more decorative, elegant quality compared to standard Watersprite. As a floating plant it creates a beautiful, finely textured surface canopy; as a background plant it provides delicate, feathery structure in the rear zones of the aquarium.
Watersprite Lace Leaf is a fast, ornate, and genuinely useful aquatic fern for aquarists who want the practical benefits of Watersprite with added decorative elegance. Its lacy fronds and flexible growing modes make it a versatile and beautiful addition to any planted aquarium.
