UNS Controbase

UNS Controbase is a supplemental, nutrient-rich base layer designed to sit beneath your main substrate in a planted aquarium. It's made from highly porous pumice stone infused with slow-release nitrogen, potassium, phosphorous, and trace elements, giving heavy root-feeding plants a nutrient reserve to draw from as they establish.

Because the granules are so porous, Controbase also promotes better water flow and oxygenation through the substrate bed, which helps cultivate the beneficial bacteria that keep a planted tank healthy long-term.

Key Features & Important Notes

• Pre-bagged in reusable mesh filter bags — place the bags directly into the tank as-is; don't remove the Controbase from the bags.
• Bags can be stacked to build varying slope heights when aquascaping.
• Nutrient release lasts approximately three months.
• Pairs well with UNS Controsoil or Controsand layered on top, depending on the aquarium's needs.
• Important: do not rinse. Spread evenly beneath the main substrate and make sure at least 2 inches of soil, sand, or gravel is layered on top.

• 8L case includes 16 individual 0.5L mesh bags.
• Recommended for aquariums up to approximately 114 gallons (e.g. a UNS 120U Standard Rimless Tank).
