Silver Tip Tetra
Silver Tip Tetra
Silver Tip Tetra (Hasemania nana) is one of the most reliable and widely kept small tetras — instantly recognizable by the vivid silver to white tips on all fins that create a glittering, star-like effect as the fish moves. Nana means 'dwarf' in Greek. The species lacks the adipose fin of most tetras, placing it in genus Hasemania. Males develop more vivid copper-orange body coloration than females when competing.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the São Francisco River drainage in Brazil — more adaptable to harder water than many South American tetras.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The silver-tipped fins create a glittering, almost sparkling effect in motion — most impressive in larger schools. Males develop copper-orange body color when competing.
One of the most reliable and beginner-friendly tetras — hardy, active, and the silver fin tips create an attractive sparkle at any group size.
