Red Base Tetra
Red Base Tetra
Red Base Tetra (Hemigrammus stictus) takes its name from the vivid red coloration at the base of the caudal fin and caudal peduncle — a bold red tail base on a silver body that creates a clean, graphic effect. A sturdy and reliable Hemigrammus from the Amazon basin.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the Amazon basin in Brazil and Suriname — rivers and tributaries with soft to moderately soft water.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The red caudal base is most vivid in soft water. Peaceful and compatible with standard community fish.
A reliable and attractive Hemigrammus with a distinctive red caudal base marking.
