Myriophyllum Hippuroides is a North American native milfoil found in slow-moving streams, ponds, and wetlands across the western United States, including California, Oregon, and Washington. Underwater it produces delicate, feather-like green leaves arranged in whorls along the stem — a fine, soft texture typical of the milfoil genus.
Care tip: Myriophyllum Hippuroides wants bright lighting to maintain full, healthy growth — under weaker light it will stretch and thin out, losing the dense, feathery look this genus is prized for.
This species does best in nutrient-rich water with soft to moderately hard water and stable parameters. It grows readily from stem cuttings — simply trim a healthy section, remove the lower leaves, and replant. In the wild it also spreads by fragmentation, with broken stem pieces rooting wherever they settle.
As a fast-growing background plant, Hippuroides provides dense, bushy cover well suited to biotope and nature-style tanks, and its North American origin makes it a natural fit for native-species biotope displays. Its feathery texture contrasts nicely against broader-leaved plants.
