Loreto Tetra
Loreto Tetra
Loreto Tetra (Hyphessobrycon loretoensis) is a small and attractive Hyphessobrycon from the Loreto department of northeastern Peru — a region of remarkable biodiversity near the confluence of major Amazon tributaries. The species name refers to the Loreto region. A warm-red bodied tetra.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to streams of the Loreto region, Peru — upper Amazon tributaries with soft, slightly acidic water.
Keep in groups of at least 8. Soft water enhances the warm red coloration. Peaceful and compatible with other Amazonian community species.
A locality-significant Peruvian tetra.
