Hulk Orange Neocaridina Shrimp
Hulk Orange Neocaridina Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) is a bold and unusual color variant that combines a vivid orange body with bright green or teal-tinged accents — particularly visible in the saddle (ovaries) and sometimes in the leg and antenna coloration. The result is a visually striking contrast: warm orange against cool green, which inspired the "Hulk" name. The orange and green complement each other in a way that makes this one of the most eye-catching Neocaridina variants available.
The Hulk Orange is a relatively recent development in the Neocaridina hobby, emerging from breeders experimenting with color combinations within the orange and yellow Neocaridina lines. The green tinting in the saddle is most vivid in females, particularly when they are carrying eggs or showing pre-breeding coloration. Males tend to display a cleaner orange without as much green expression, making sexing straightforward in established colonies.
All Neocaridina davidi color varieties are color-selected lines of a single species native to Taiwan. Decades of selective breeding by Taiwanese hobbyists have produced an extraordinary range of colors — when you keep a Neocaridina shrimp, you are keeping one of the most extensively domesticated freshwater invertebrates in the world.
A note on mixing colors: Neocaridina color varieties will interbreed freely. Subsequent generations of crosses revert toward the ancestral wild-type — a muddy brown-olive. Keep each color variety in its own aquarium to maintain color quality.
