Gold Nugget Stardust Pleco (L081)
Gold Nugget Stardust Pleco (L081)
Gold Nugget Stardust Pleco (L081) (Baryancistrus xanthellus) combines the gold nugget yellow spot pattern with a particularly dense stardust spot distribution — vivid yellow spots densely packed across the dark body. Baryancistrus plecos are large, omnivorous loricariids that accept both algae-based and protein foods — more flexible feeders than the strictly carnivorous Hypancistrus group.
Feeding & Care Tip: Hikari Mini Algae Wafers and Hikari Sinking Wafers make excellent staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms and blanched vegetables. Driftwood presence is beneficial.
Native to fast-flowing, rocky rivers of the Amazon basin. Requires strong flow, high oxygenation, and warm water. Sensitive to high nitrates — regular water changes important.
Singly or in pairs in large aquariums — these grow substantially and need space. Cave spawner with male brood care.
Large, impressive plecos with striking patterns. Plan for adult size from the beginning — most Baryancistrus reach 10+ inches.
