Glass Bloodfin Tetra
Glass Bloodfin Tetra
Glass Bloodfin Tetra (Prionobrama filigera) combines the transparent ghost-like body quality of glass tetras with vivid red coloration in the caudal fin — creating a fish that appears to be a floating red tail attached to a nearly invisible body. The internal organs and spine are faintly visible through the translucent flanks.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the Paraguay and lower Amazon River systems in Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil — a cool-tolerant tetra from the southern part of the South American range.
Keep in groups of at least 10. The semi-transparent body makes the red caudal fin appear almost detached in motion — striking in a large school. More cool-water tolerant than most tetras.
An unusual and beautiful transparency tetra — the floating red tail effect is genuinely unlike any other fish.
