The Fluval Hang-On Breeding Box gives you a safe, separate space right inside your main aquarium. Use it as a hatchery to protect newborn fry from being eaten, to isolate a sick, injured or weak fish, or to acclimate new arrivals to your tank water before they join the community. Because it hangs on the outside of the glass and uses water drawn from your own tank, the conditions inside match the main aquarium — no separate heater or filter needed.
Available in two sizes: the Medium is ideal for a single fish or a small brood of fry, while the Large adds more room and can be divided into up to three separate chambers with the included partition plates — handy for separating a pregnant livebearer, her fry and a recovering fish all at once.
⚠ Air Pump Required: The breeding box is air-driven, so it needs an air pump (sold separately) to circulate water through the box. Fluval recommends a pump rated at about 1 L/minute, such as the Fluval Q.5 or A101.
Feeding & Care Tip: Keep the box level on the glass and check the water flow after mounting. For newborn fry, feed tiny amounts of a very fine food several times a day — Sera Micron Fry Food is made for exactly this — and move the fry to the main tank once they are too big to be eaten by their tankmates.
