Florida Ruffle
Florida Ruffle
Florida Ruffle is a cultivar of Echinodorus producing deeply ruffled, wavy-edged leaves that create strong textural depth in the background of larger aquariums. The dramatically ruffled leaf margins are more pronounced than in standard Ruffle Sword, creating an ornamental sword plant of considerable visual character that suits larger planted aquariums where the impressive ruffled leaf form can be fully developed and appreciated.
Care note: Florida Ruffle is best grown in emersed or terrarium conditions with consistent humidity rather than fully submerged. Maintain temperatures of 72–82°F and a humid environment for healthy, vibrant growth.
Growing to 12 to 20 inches, Florida Ruffle is a large background plant for aquariums of 40 gallons or more. Like all ruffled Echinodorus, the most impressive ruffled leaf form develops in well-established plants with consistent root zone nutrition. Nutrient-rich substrate or regular root tab feeding supports the production of the large, dramatically ruffled leaves that define this cultivar's character.
This easy to moderate plant grows in moderate lighting with CO₂ optional. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Root feeding is the most effective care investment — the dramatic ruffled leaf form is most fully expressed in nutritionally well-supported, established plants. CO₂ improves growth rate and leaf size.
In the aquascape, Florida Ruffle creates a bold, dramatically textured background presence whose ruffled leaves provide extraordinary visual depth and natural complexity in larger compositions. The strongly ruffled leaf margins catch light from multiple angles and create rich shadow patterns beneath the rosette. It is most effective as a solitary background specimen given space to develop its full ruffled character.
Florida Ruffle is a boldly ruffled and visually dramatic Echinodorus cultivar for aquarists with larger aquariums who want maximum leaf texture from a background sword plant. Its deeply ruffled leaves and strong background presence make it a naturally impressive and rewarding planted aquarium centerpiece.
