Description

FENESTRATARUM MULYADII

Fenestratarum Mulyadii was described in 2015 as the second known species in the genus Fenestratarum, discovered growing on moss-covered rocks immediately beside waterfalls in Kalimantan, Borneo. Its long, ruffled, deep green leaves closely resemble popular Bucephalandra varieties like Belindae and Catherinae, but with more pronounced curves and leaves that sprout closely together from a thick central rhizome.

Care tip: Do not plant the rhizome in substrate — Fenestratarum Mulyadii is epiphytic, like Bucephalandra and Aridarum, and burying or covering the rhizome will cause it to melt and rot. It's equally at home fully submerged in the aquarium, attached to hardscape, or grown emersed in a high-humidity terrarium or paludarium.

This species grows on wet, mossy rock beside waterfalls in the wild, so consistent moisture and stable water parameters matter more than any single number. Low to medium lighting and CO2 injection where possible support healthier, denser growth, and quality fertilization helps maintain the leaves' deep green color.

Fenestratarum Mulyadii's long, slightly leathery, ruffled leaves make it a strong specimen for hardscape-attached display in the midground or background of a planted aquarium, where it reads visually similar to premium Bucephalandra but with a texture all its own. It suits collectors already keeping Bucephalandra, Aridarum, or Piptospatha.

Fenestratarum Mulyadii is extremely rare and still relatively little studied even within the specialist aroid hobby — its native habitat in Borneo has reportedly been impacted, so the plants available today descend from cultivated stock rather than continued wild collection.
