Electric Blue Acara (Andinoacara sp.) is one of the most popular and accessible South American cichlids — a medium-sized, peaceful fish with extraordinary iridescent electric blue scaling across the entire body. The Electric Blue Acara is a line-bred color enhancement of the Blue Acara complex, selected for maximum blue iridescence. It combines spectacular color with a peaceful, community-friendly temperament that makes it one of the best cichlids for mixed planted community aquariums.
Feeding & Care Tip: Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold makes an excellent primary staple — Hikari Micro Pellets as backup. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms or Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Brine Shrimp. Feed 2–3 times daily in amounts consumed within a few minutes.
The Electric Blue Acara is a selectively developed strain — bred specifically to maximize the blue iridescent scaling of the Acara complex. It retains the same care requirements and temperament as the standard Blue Acara but with significantly enhanced coloration. Soft to moderately hard water with good filtration and regular water changes produce the richest blue coloration.
Keep as a pair or in a small group. One of the most community-compatible cichlids available — peaceful enough for planted aquariums with medium-sized tetras, corydoras, and other peaceful species. Pairs form devoted bonds and are excellent flat surface spawners with attentive biparental care.
