Care tip: Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red may experience some leaf melt when first introduced to a new aquarium — this is a normal acclimation response and the plant will recover fully once established. A nutrient-rich substrate and stable water parameters minimize this response and support the best long-term growth.

Like all wendtii varieties, Red inherits the famous wendtii hardiness and adaptability from Sri Lanka. It benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate and stable conditions but tolerates a wide range of water parameters that would challenge more sensitive Crypts. Initial leaf melt upon introduction is possible but typically brief. Once established, Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red is a reliable, long-lived midground plant that improves in color as it matures.

Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red is an easy plant that grows in low to moderate lighting. CO₂ needs are low. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Regular fertilization, particularly with iron-containing liquid formulas, supports and deepens the reddish-brown coloration. Higher light consistently produces richer, more saturated red-bronze tones — the color rewards good conditions without requiring them.

In the aquascape, Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red provides warm, reliable midground color across a wide range of tank types. The reddish-brown tones complement green plants beautifully and create natural visual warmth alongside driftwood and stone.
