Cryptocoryne Wendtii 'Broad Leaf' is a wide-leafed form of one of the most popular and adaptable species in the entire Cryptocoryne genus. Cryptocoryne wendtii is native to Sri Lanka and known for the sheer number of leaf forms and color variants it produces in cultivation — this 'Broad Leaf' form stands out for its wider, more substantial foliage compared to the narrower-leaved wendtii varieties we already carry.
Care tip: As with all Cryptocoryne wendtii, expect leaf melt after planting — it is a normal reaction to a new environment, and the plant reliably recovers and continues producing its wide, ruffled leaves once settled.
Cryptocoryne wendtii is famously adaptable, tolerating low or high light and growing well with or without CO2 injection, though its widest, fullest leaves develop with moderate light and a nutrient-rich substrate. It needs stable conditions and time to settle in — avoid moving it once planted.
The broader leaf form gives this variety a fuller, more substantial midground presence than narrow-leaved wendtii types, useful for aquascapers wanting more visual weight from a still fully reliable, hardy species. It reproduces by runners and pairs naturally with Java Fern, Anubias, and other classic low-tech companions.
