Cryptocoryne Pontederiifolia is native to Borneo, Indonesia, and is identifiable by its long petioles and arrowhead-shaped leaves — light to olive green above, sometimes taking on a subtle pink hue on the underside. It is notably faster-growing than many other Cryptocoryne species, a welcome trait for a genus generally known for patience-testing growth rates.
Care tip: Cryptocoryne Pontederiifolia may melt after being introduced to a new tank — a normal Crypt acclimation response that resolves with time and stable conditions.
This species tolerates a genuinely wide range of conditions, growing comfortably in tropical or subtropical temperatures and adapting to low to medium light. CO2 supplementation benefits growth but isn't required. Once established, it reproduces readily by runners, which can be cut and replanted for easy propagation.
Given time to establish, Pontederiifolia's arrowhead leaves and comparatively fast growth make it an effective midground plant that fills in more quickly than most crypts, useful for aquascapers who want the Cryptocoryne look without the usual wait. It pairs well with slower-growing crypts and mosses.
