CRYPTOCORYNE GRABOWSKII
Cryptocoryne Grabowskii (botanically Cryptocoryne cordata var. grabowskii) is a Borneo-endemic crypt named for 19th-century botanist Heinrich Emanuel Grabowski. It belongs to the cordata group, known for broad, heart-shaped leaves that vary considerably from plant to plant — smooth to bullate texture, bright green to brownish coloration — making each specimen a little different from the next.
Care tip: This is a soft-water specialist: Grabowskii comes from acidic Bornean streams and cannot be grown successfully in hard water. Provide soft, acidic conditions and expect the usual Cryptocoryne melt on introduction, with full recovery once established.
Cryptocoryne Grabowskii wants very soft, acidic water — in nature it is found over acidic substrates in blackwater conditions and can tolerate pH well below 6. A nutrient-rich substrate supports its extensive root system, and stable parameters matter more than any single number, since this species does not adapt well to hard water or frequent changes.
The broad cordata-type leaves make Grabowskii an effective midground-to-background plant, adding textural contrast in soft-water Bornean biotope tanks. It combines naturally with other cordata-group Cryptocoryne, Bucephalandra, and driftwood hardscape, and works well as a specimen plant given its size and leaf variability.
