Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf'
Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf'
Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf' is a rare and remarkable variety that pushes the limits of Bucephalandra leaf form with needle-thin leaves in a very compact growth arrangement. The combination of extreme leaf narrowness and compact size creates a plant of exceptional textural fineness — a precision botanical specimen that adds a type of detail to the aquascape that no other plant can provide.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf' can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean species from Indonesia, Needle Leaf can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This easy-care variety grows well in low to moderate lighting without requiring CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Needle Leaf can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to just 1 to 2 inches with needle-thin leaves, this variety requires only small pieces of hardscape for attachment and is perfectly scaled for nano tanks, paludariums, and precision foreground work. Regular liquid fertilization supports healthy growth of the unusual needle-form leaves.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf' creates a type of fine botanical detail that is unique in the freshwater hobby. The needle-thin leaves create a soft, hairgrass-like silhouette on hardscape, and when grouped together the effect is a delicate, flowing fringe of fine Bucephalandra leaves that is unlike anything achievable with other plants.
Bucephalandra sp. 'Needle Leaf' is a rare collector's treasure. Its exceptional leaf form and easy care make it both a conversation piece and a practical choice for fine-detail aquascape compositions.
