Bucephalandra Skeleton King is one of the largest and most sought-after Bucephalandra varieties, prized among collectors for its bold, substantial leaves and dark, dramatic coloration. New leaves often emerge with a deep pink-to-red flush before darkening as they mature, giving established clumps a striking two-tone look.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Skeleton King can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Native to the rivers of Borneo, Indonesia, Bucephalandra Skeleton King thrives attached to hardscape rather than planted in substrate. Like all Bucephalandra, it carries the enchanting ability to produce small white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
This variety reaches roughly 4-6 inches in height. It thrives in low to moderate lighting and grows well without CO2 supplementation, though CO2 and liquid fertilization will enhance leaf color and growth rate. Water temperatures of 72-82 degF and a pH range of 6.0-7.5 provide ideal conditions.
