Bucephalandra Red Mini
Bucephalandra Red Mini
Bucephalandra Red Mini is a compact, dark reddish-leaved variety perfectly sized for nano tanks and the tight crevices and detailed sections of hardscape arrangements. The dark reddish color of the compact leaves provides warm accent color at the foreground level — a valuable quality in planted tanks where most rooted plants contribute primarily green tones.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Red Mini can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean species from Indonesia, Red Mini can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This moderate-difficulty variety is notable for its tolerance of low to moderate light conditions without requiring CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide ideal conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Red Mini can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to just 1 to 2 inches, Red Mini is ideally sized for nano tanks and for detailed crevice planting in larger aquascapes. Regular liquid fertilization with iron-rich micronutrient formulas supports the dark reddish coloration of the leaves.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Red Mini provides warm foreground color that is particularly effective in low-light setups where most red plants would struggle to maintain their coloration. The dark reddish leaves contrast naturally with green mosses and create visual warmth against cool-toned stone or pale driftwood. Dwarf shrimp are attracted to the compact leaves, making Red Mini an excellent choice for low-tech shrimp tanks.
Bucephalandra Red Mini is a compact, warm-colored plant that brings genuine red tones to low-light planted aquariums. Practical, attractive, and a natural fit for nano setups and detailed hardscape compositions.
