Bucephalandra Pina
Bucephalandra Pina
Bucephalandra Pina is a slow-growing, compact variety with subtle coloration and a refined, understated character that suits aquascapers who appreciate the more restrained end of the Bucephalandra aesthetic. While many Bucephalandra cultivars compete for attention through dramatic iridescence or unusual color, Pina offers a quieter botanical presence — a well-structured, low-growing plant that contributes texture and organic authenticity without demanding center stage.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Pina can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean species from Indonesia, Pina can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any height in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This moderate-difficulty variety grows well in low to moderate lighting without requiring CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.2 provide comfortable conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Pina can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Pina grows to 1 to 2 inches. Its slow growth rate ensures it holds its position in the aquascape reliably over extended periods. Regular liquid fertilization supports consistent healthy growth and stable conditions are particularly important for moderate-difficulty Bucephalandra varieties like Pina.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Pina functions effectively as a supporting accent plant — providing fine botanical detail and texture without competing with more colorful or dramatic species in the composition. It pairs naturally with mosses, fine-textured foreground plants, and more colorful Bucephalandra varieties where its understated character provides visual rest and balance.
Bucephalandra Pina is for the aquarist who appreciates balance and botanical authenticity. Its quiet character and reliable ease of care make it a dependable and pleasing addition to any planted aquarium.
