Bucephalandra Godzilla (kedagang red)
Bucephalandra Godzilla (kedagang red)
Bucephalandra Godzilla kedagang red is a commanding variety from the kedagang group of Bucephalandra, featuring heavily textured leaves with red hues that give the plant a bold, rugged character perfectly suited to its Godzilla designation. The textured, red-accented foliage creates a genuinely striking display — a foreground to midground plant with the visual authority to anchor sections of a larger aquascape composition.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Godzilla (kedagang red) can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a kedagang-type Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Godzilla kedagang red can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to wood or rock at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This moderate-difficulty variety benefits from medium lighting and optional CO₂ supplementation to bring out the best expression of the red hues in the heavily textured leaves. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 provide ideal conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, it can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to 2 to 4 inches, Godzilla kedagang red occupies the foreground to midground zone of the aquascape. The textured, red-accented leaves develop most fully under consistent conditions with regular liquid fertilization. This variety grows slowly, which means the dramatic textured leaves remain in place and develop fully without the plant outgrowing its position.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Godzilla kedagang red is most effective on prominent pieces of driftwood or stone where its heavily textured, red-hued leaves can create a powerful visual anchor. The red tones provide warm color contrast among cooler green and blue plants, and the heavy leaf texture creates light and shadow effects that add visual depth to the composition.
Bucephalandra Godzilla kedagang red is a bold, textured plant that justifies its dramatic name with genuine visual authority. A commanding presence in any planted aquarium.
