Bucephalandra Cherish
Bucephalandra Cherish
Bucephalandra Cherish is a delightful small variety with leaves that display a shimmering pink-purple hue — a warm, rosy iridescence that sets it apart from the cooler blues and greens that dominate many Bucephalandra cultivars. The pink-purple shimmer combined with the compact, manageable size of this variety creates a plant that genuinely earns its affectionate name, delivering a warmth and charm in the foreground that is immediately appealing.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Cherish can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Cherish can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to wood or stone at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This easy-care variety grows well in low to moderate lighting with optional CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.4 provide comfortable growing conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Cherish can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to 2 to 4 inches, Cherish is suited to foreground and hardscape attachment across a range of tank sizes. Regular liquid fertilization, particularly with micronutrient-rich formulas, supports the health and the pink-purple iridescence of the leaves.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Cherish provides warm, rosy color contrast in the foreground that is unusual and highly valued. The pink-purple hues complement deep green plants and create a natural color harmony with other warm-toned plants in the mid and background. In collections featuring multiple Bucephalandra varieties, Cherish provides a warm focal note that balances cooler blue and green varieties beautifully.
Bucephalandra Cherish is a warm, charming variety that brings genuine pink-purple color to the planted aquarium in an easy, compact form. For aquarists who want warmth and color in the foreground, it is a genuinely special plant.
