Bucephalandra Brownie Kapuas
Bucephalandra Brownie Kapuas
Bucephalandra Brownie Kapuas is a compact variety from the brownie group of Bucephalandra, named after the Kapuas River region of Borneo, Indonesia, from which it originates. The characteristic brownie-group coloration — dark green to brownish tones — gives Kapuas a warm, earthy quality that suits naturalistic aquascape designs and creates a genuine botanical connection to the Bornean river environments where all Bucephalandra naturally grow.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Brownie Kapuas can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a brownie-type Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Kapuas can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This easy-care variety grows well in low to moderate lighting with optional CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Brownie Kapuas can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to 1 to 2 inches, Brownie Kapuas is a compact variety well suited to foreground and hardscape attachment. The compact size and earthy coloration make it a natural companion for natural materials — driftwood, river stones, and organic substrate — in biotope-inspired and nature-style aquascapes.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Brownie Kapuas provides warm, earthy foreground color that grounds the composition in a naturalistic visual register. The brownish tones pair naturally with the warm colors of driftwood and help bridge the visual gap between the browns and tans of hardscape and the greens of plant life.
Bucephalandra Brownie Kapuas is a warm, authentic plant for aquarists who appreciate botanical provenance and naturalistic design. Its earthy coloration and easy care make it a grounding, dependable presence in any planted aquarium.
