Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost
Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost
Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost is an extremely compact and slow-growing variety with a fascinating color-shifting quality — the plant's appearance changes noticeably with variations in light and CO₂ levels, making it a dynamic, evolving botanical presence in the aquarium. The ghost designation captures both the subtle, shifting quality of its coloration and the small, quiet presence of this miniature plant, which reveals its full character gradually as conditions evolve.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Brownie Ghost can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This easy-care variety is noted for its compatibility with very low light conditions and requires no CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 suit this plant well. Like all Bucephalandra, Brownie Ghost can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to just 1 to 2 inches with very slow growth, Brownie Ghost holds its compact, miniature form almost indefinitely in the aquascape. The color-shifting behavior — responding to changes in light and CO₂ — means the plant provides an element of ongoing visual interest as aquarium conditions evolve over time.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost is a specialist nano plant that excels in the lowest-light positions of the foreground and on the shadowed sides of detailed hardscape. Its compact, color-shifting character creates a plant of mystery and botanical intrigue in any collection.
Bucephalandra Brownie Ghost is a miniature plant of quiet mystery and evolving beauty. For nano tanks and low-light environments, it is a unique and rewarding choice.
