Bucephalandra Bilbus
Bucephalandra Bilbus
Bucephalandra Bilbus is a refined moderate-difficulty variety featuring wavy leaves with a distinctive blue-green tone that gives the plant a cool, aquatic character well suited to naturalistic aquascape compositions. The combination of the undulating leaf margins and the blue-green color creates a plant with both textural interest and a subtle color presence that rewards close observation and careful placement.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Bilbus can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Like all Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Bilbus can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any height in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. It grows best with low to moderate lighting and optional CO₂ supplementation, and prefers temperatures between 72 and 82°F with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.2. Like all Bucephalandra, Bilbus can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to 2 to 4 inches, Bilbus provides useful midground height alongside its foreground attachment placement. Regular liquid fertilization supports the wavy leaf structure and the characteristic blue-green tone. Consistent water chemistry and gentle to moderate flow reflect the natural stream environment of Borneo and produce the best growth and color results.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Bilbus is most effective as a midground accent on featured hardscape where the wavy blue-green leaves can be appreciated at a comfortable viewing distance. The blue-green tones provide a cool color complement to warmer-toned plants, and the wavy leaf form creates organic movement in the current.
Bucephalandra Bilbus is a sophisticated, textured variety for aquarists who want subtle color and organic leaf form in a single reliable plant. A rewarding addition to any Bucephalandra collection.
