Brilliant Rasbora
Brilliant Rasbora
Brilliant Rasbora (Rasbora einthovenii) is a medium-sized rasbora with an iridescent blue-green lateral stripe and vivid fin coloration — the 'brilliant' name references the shifting metallic sheen of the body scales. Named for Dutch zoologist Willem Pieter Cocq d'Armandville — also known as Einthoven — an early collector of Sumatran fish fauna.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Tubifex Worms, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo — rivers and streams with soft to moderately soft water. A widely distributed and adaptable rasbora that has been in the hobby for many decades.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The iridescent blue-green lateral stripe is most vivid in well-conditioned fish under good lighting. An active schooling species that needs open swimming space.
A classic and reliable medium rasbora — the iridescent stripe is attractive in motion and the species is notably hardy.
