Argostema Jade Green
Argostema Jade Green belongs to Argostemma, a large genus of over 200 species in the coffee family (Rubiaceae), with major centers of diversity in the Malay Peninsula, Thailand, and Borneo. Argostemma are small, mostly lithophytic or epiphytic herbs found in wet, shaded primary forest — typically on moss-covered rock faces, stream banks, and around waterfalls — and are recognized by their delicate, star- or bell-shaped flowers.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: This genus grows naturally on wet, shaded rock faces near streams and waterfalls — a terrarium or other enclosed humid setup recreates that microclimate far better than an open room.
Give it bright, indirect or filtered light, high humidity in the 70–90% range, and a moisture-retentive but well-draining substrate. Avoid direct sun, which will burn the delicate foliage, and avoid letting the plant dry out, since most Argostemma come from consistently wet forest-floor habitats.
With Borneo alone home to roughly two-thirds of the genus's known species, many still being formally described, plants like this one represent a genuinely active area of ongoing botanical discovery — a rewarding terrarium find for collectors drawn to delicate, shade-loving foliage.
