Anubias Barteri Wrinkle Leaf
Anubias Barteri Wrinkle Leaf
Anubias Barteri Wrinkle Leaf is the large-leaf expression of the wrinkle-leaf trait, producing broad, full-sized Anubias barteri leaves with a deeply corrugated, puckered surface texture. Growing to 6 to 10 inches, it is a substantially sized midground plant whose pronounced wrinkling across wide leaf surfaces creates dramatic light and shadow effects. The chart notes it as excellent for low-tech tanks — a reflection of how accommodating this variety is.
Planting tip: Never bury the rhizome in substrate — Anubias Barteri Wrinkle Leaf should always be attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape with the rhizome fully exposed. Use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Like all Anubias, Anubias Barteri Wrinkle Leaf is an exceptionally easy plant to maintain. Low to moderate lighting is sufficient, CO₂ needs are low, and the plant thrives in temperatures between 72 and 82°F with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. Liquid fertilization supports the production of new, richly textured leaves. Good circulation is particularly beneficial for keeping the large, textured leaf surface clean.
The rhizome must be attached to driftwood or rock, kept fully exposed above the substrate. The large leaves of this cultivar suit attachment to substantial pieces of driftwood or rock formations where the broad, textured foliage has room to be displayed properly.
In the aquascape, Anubias Barteri Wrinkle Leaf serves as a bold midground to background plant whose textured leaves add visual complexity to any layout. The corrugated surface contrasts beautifully with smooth-leaved plants and fine-textured mosses. Fish, particularly cichlids and larger community species, tend to use the broad leaves as territory markers and resting spots. Bold, distinctive, and always eye-catching.
