Like all floating plants, American Frogbit grows on the water surface without requiring substrate. It multiplies through daughter plantlets that develop on runners, gradually spreading across the surface. Surface agitation should be moderate — strong flow can damage and sink the spongy floating leaves. It grows quickly under good light but remains manageable compared to more aggressive floating species.
This easy plant requires no CO₂ supplementation and grows across a wide range of lighting from low to high. The temperature range of 70 to 82°F reflects its North American origin with preference for warm conditions. A pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provides comfortable conditions.
