Amazon Sword (amazonicus)
Amazon Sword (amazonicus)
Amazon Sword amazonicus is a slightly narrower-leaved Amazon Sword variant producing clean, vivid green lance-shaped leaves in a full, healthy background rosette. Botanically distinct from the bleheri form in its somewhat more slender leaf proportions, amazonicus creates a slightly more refined and less visually massive background rosette than the widest-leaved Amazon Sword forms while retaining all the easy care and adaptability that makes the genus so universally valued.
Care tip: Amazon Sword (amazonicus) is a root feeder that benefits greatly from a nutrient-rich substrate or regular root tabs. Maintain temperatures of 72–82°F and pH 6.5–7.5. CO₂ is not required for this variety.
Growing to 16 to 20 inches, amazonicus is a natural background plant for medium and larger aquariums. The somewhat narrower leaves create a lighter, more graceful background rosette than the widest bleheri forms. Root tabs or nutrient-rich substrate support the best growth — as with all Amazon Swords, root feeding makes the most significant difference to growth quality.
This easy plant requires no CO₂ supplementation and grows under medium lighting. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Regular root feeding maintains healthy, consistent leaf production. Its exceptional adaptability ensures reliable, attractive performance across a wide range of aquarium setups and conditions.
In the aquascape, Amazon Sword amazonicus provides clean, healthy green background structure with a slightly more refined leaf profile than the widest-leaved Amazon Sword forms. It suits medium and larger aquariums where reliable, easy-growing background coverage is needed. Like all Amazon Swords it creates natural shelter for fish and serves as an excellent companion to virtually every other aquarium plant.
Amazon Sword amazonicus is a reliable, attractive, and broadly adaptable Amazon Sword variant for aquarists who want a slightly more refined narrow-leaved version of this classic species. Its easy care and consistently beautiful green rosette make it a practical and rewarding background plant for aquariums of all levels of sophistication.
