Alternanthera Ocipus (Alternanthera reineckii 'Ocipus') is an uncommon Alternanthera reineckii cultivar distinguished from other AR varieties by its more rounded leaf shape and a distinctive color profile that sets it apart within an already colorful group of stem plants.
Care tip: Ocipus isn't overly demanding for an Alternanthera — it performs in both soft and harder water, though CO2 injection and good lighting bring out its best color and fullest growth.
Like other AR varieties, Ocipus benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate, moderate to high lighting, and regular fertilization to maintain vibrant coloration. CO2 supplementation is not strictly required but noticeably improves growth density and color saturation. Regular trimming and replanting of stem tops keeps the plant full and bushy rather than leggy.
As a background-to-midground stem plant, Alternanthera Ocipus adds warm color contrast against green planting, and looks best planted in groups rather than as single stems. It pairs naturally with other Alternanthera and Rotala varieties in nature-style, color-focused aquascapes.
