Alocasia Beccarii Engl. Silver Sarawak
Alocasia Beccarii was described by Engler and is native to northwestern Borneo, growing as a small, low-elevation subshrub. This "Silver Sarawak" form carries the species' signature small, entirely peltate (shield-shaped), more or less elliptic leaf blade with a silvery-toned cast over the standard green — a color variant collected from the same Sarawak locality as the standard green form.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Brighter, indirect light tends to bring out the silvery cast most clearly — too little light and the coloring can settle toward plain green.
Like the green form, this species is distinguished from its close West Malesian relatives by its condensed stem, secondary veins arising from the main ribs, comparatively small size, and preference for lowland rather than montane habitat. Give it bright indirect light, a well-draining aroid mix, and consistent warmth and humidity.
A subtly distinct silver-toned selection of a genuinely small, true-species Bornean Alocasia — a good pick for collectors who want the authenticity of a named species with a bit of extra shimmer.
