Ruby Red Club Moss is a striking terrarium and paludarium plant from Africa producing moss-like foliage with distinctive dark green upper surfaces and vivid ruby red undersides — an unusually bold two-toned color combination that makes it immediately recognizable and visually striking in any humid display. The contrast between the dark green tops and the ruby red undersides is most dramatic when light passes through the fronds from below, illuminating the vivid red color.

Care note: Ruby Red Club Moss is best grown in emersed or terrarium conditions with consistent humidity rather than fully submerged. Maintain temperatures of 65–75°F and a humid environment for healthy, vibrant growth.

Not a true aquatic plant, Ruby Red Club Moss thrives in the emersed zones of paludariums, the humid rims of open-top aquariums, and terrarium setups where it can grow in consistently humid but not fully submerged conditions. It spreads slowly across moist substrate and hardscape surfaces in these environments. Regular light misting or consistent ambient humidity maintains healthy, vibrant growth.

This easy plant grows in low to moderate lighting without CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 65 and 75°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.0 provide comfortable conditions. The ruby red undersides are most vivid under appropriate lighting where the contrast between the dark green tops and red undersides can be clearly displayed.

In the paludarium or terrarium, Ruby Red Club Moss creates a uniquely two-toned ground covering whose ruby red undersides create warm color accents visible wherever light passes through the fronds from below. It pairs naturally with other terrarium mosses, ferns, and small tropical plants in humid vivarium compositions.
