Description

Serene 45° Bookshelf Aquarium

The Serene 45° Bookshelf is Hydra Aquatics' take on the modern rimless display tank, built from ultra-clear, low-iron "Starphire"-grade glass. Ordinary aquarium glass carries a faint green tint from the iron in it; low-iron glass strips that away, so what you see is your scape's true colors — vivid plant greens, accurate fish coloration, and water that genuinely looks clear rather than bottle-green. The "45 degree" in the name refers to the mitered edges: the panels are cut and joined at a 45° bevel so the corner seams all but disappear for an almost frameless, all-glass look, while also strengthening the joint. The result is a clean, gallery-like display that puts nothing between the viewer and the aquascape.

Good to Know: These are true rimless, open-top aquariums — no plastic frame, hood, or lid. That's exactly what gives them their seamless look, but it also means a lid and light are chosen separately to suit your setup. Each tank ships on a protective base mat that cushions the bottom panel and helps spread weight evenly across your stand or shelf, and is backed by a manufacturer's warranty.

True to its name, the bookshelf format is long, low, and shallow — a footprint designed to sit comfortably on a shelf, desk, sideboard, or counter without the bulk of a standard tank. That panoramic, shallow profile is a gift for aquascapers: it delivers a wide, diorama-like view and lets light reach the substrate easily, which carpeting plants and low-growing foreground species love. It makes an ideal home for a planted nano scape, a shrimp colony, a betta, or a small school of nano fish.

Aquascaping Tip: Use the length, not the height. Because the tank is shallow front-to-back, build your hardscape to create depth along the horizontal — set a taller focal piece off-center using the rule of thirds and let finer details trail toward the opposite end. The shallow water column also means even modest lighting reaches all the way to the substrate, so carpets and foreground plants thrive with far less effort than in a deep tank.
