Pinanga Veitchii is native to the rainforest understory of Borneo (Brunei and Malaysian Borneo), a small, clustering, cane-stemmed dwarf palm that rarely exceeds 1.5–2 meters even at maturity. Its most remarkable feature shows up in seedlings and young shoots: thick, leathery, undivided leaves intensely mottled in purple-brown and pale green — genuine camouflage that lets young plants blend seamlessly into the forest floor's leaf litter.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Enjoy the mottled pattern while it lasts — as plants mature and grow taller, the dramatic purple-and-green camouflage gradually fades to plain green.
Give it heavy shade, consistently high humidity (70–90%), and a rich, moisture-retentive mix of perlite, peat, and fern root. Water regularly — roughly three times a week is typical — to keep the growing medium moist without letting it dry out, and maintain warm, stable temperatures year-round; this is a genuine tropical lowland species with no tolerance for cold.
