Description
Syngonium Wendlandii
Syngonium Wendlandii, commonly called the Velvet Arrowhead Vine or Silver Goosefoot Plant, is native to Costa Rica and the wider Central American rainforest, where it climbs trees as an epiphyte reaching for dappled canopy light. One of the two most recognized Syngonium species in cultivation (alongside the common Syngonium podophyllum), it's prized for velvety, dark green, arrowhead-shaped leaves marked with a bold silvery-white central stripe.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Unlike many Syngonium, this species keeps its signature arrowhead shape even at maturity rather than splitting into more complex lobed leaves — so the leaf shape you see young is close to what you'll get as it grows.
Give it bright, indirect light (too little fades the silver variegation; direct sun scorches the velvety leaves), a rich, well-draining mix with added orchid bark and perlite, and water once the top inch or two of soil is dry — never let it dry out completely. A moss pole encourages larger, more mature leaves if you want it to climb rather than trail from a hanging pot.
Often confused with the similar Syngonium erythrophyllum and Syngonium rayii, this species is identified by its distinct velvet texture and bold silver stripe — a refined, understated look that has made it a genuine favorite among Syngonium collectors.
