Labisia Obtusifolia was described by Hallier and is native to Borneo, a relative of the well-known medicinal herb Labisia pumila (Kacip Fatimah). It's characterized by broad, rounded leaves — giving it the trade nickname "Turtle Back" — a more robust, rounded look than the narrower foliage typical of its famous relative.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Keep the substrate constantly moist but never wet — this species dislikes drying out as much as it dislikes waterlogging.
Give it bright morning light or shaded afternoon light, well-drained but moisture-retentive soil, and warm, humid, moving air. Native to lowland tropical forest, it prefers partial shade rather than deep shade or bright direct exposure. Like Labisia pumila, it carries some traditional medicinal use in its native range, though it is far less commonly harvested.
A genuinely distinct Bornean Labisia species for collectors who want the genus's understory charm in a broader, rounder-leaved form than the classic pumila.
