Longfin Neon Tetra
Longfin Neon Tetra
Longfin Neon Tetra (Paracheirodon innesi longfin) is the longfin mutation of the classic Neon Tetra — the same brilliant blue-green iridescent stripe and vivid red belly, combined with dramatically extended flowing fin rays. The iridescent stripe is produced by guanine crystals and shifts from blue-green to indigo in darkness. The flowing fins billow gracefully with each movement.
Feeding & Care Tip: Hikari Micro Pellets (crushed or soaked briefly) and Sera Vipan Baby make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp and Hikari Frozen Daphnia. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily in a calm environment.
The longfin mutation is a captive-developed aquarium strain. All other characteristics are identical to the standard Neon Tetra. Extended fins require clean water and very gentle filtration — strong currents gradually damage the fin rays. Fin-nipping tankmates are absolutely incompatible.
Soft, slightly acidic water enhances coloration. The longfin form does not occur in the wild — a purely aquarium development.
Keep in groups of at least 10. The longfin mutation makes an already beautiful fish spectacular in a planted aquarium with gentle flow. Avoid all fin-nippers.
