Emerald Eye Rasbora
Emerald Eye Rasbora
Emerald Eye Rasbora (Brevibora dorsiocellata) is named for the vivid emerald-green iridescence of the upper eye — a vivid green iris that stands out clearly even across an aquarium. The body is pale silver to greenish-silver with a dark spot near the dorsal fin — the dorsiocellata name ('dorsal eye-spotted') references this marking. Placed in genus Brevibora after separation from Rasbora.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Tubifex Worms, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra — rivers and streams with soft to moderately soft water. The genus Brevibora was established to accommodate this and related species distinct from the broader Rasbora group.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The vivid green eye is visible even at a distance — a distinctive and unusual feature for a small rasbora. Compatible with all peaceful small community species.
The emerald eye is the defining and most memorable feature of this species — a unique and striking characteristic among schooling fish.
