Albino Cardinal Tetra
Albino Cardinal Tetra
Albino Cardinal Tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi) is the albino form — reduced melanin creates a pale, pearlescent body while the red coloration is retained and often appears more vivid on the pale background. Eyes are red or pink. The iridescent stripe appears silver-white rather than blue-green.
Feeding & Care Tip: Hikari Micro Pellets (crushed or soaked briefly) and Sera Vipan Baby make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp and Hikari Frozen Daphnia. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily in a calm environment.
The albino gene suppresses melanin but does not affect red carotenoid pigmentation. More light-sensitive than standard fish — benefits from subdued lighting and floating plant cover. Care requirements identical to standard Cardinal Tetra.
Soft, slightly acidic blackwater conditions with tannin additions produce the best coloration and most comfortable environment.
Keep in groups of at least 8. Can be mixed with standard Cardinal Tetras — the pale albino individuals stand out dramatically against darker schoolmates.
