Begonia Dracopelta was described in 2019 alongside its close relative Begonia inggitiae, and is found across both Kalimantan and Sarawak on Borneo — a wider natural range than its more narrowly endemic cousin. Both species belong to Begonia section Petermannia, a group of Bornean rhizomatous Begonia frequently marked by striking foliage patterning.

Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.

Care tip: Give this species steady, terrarium-style conditions — consistent humidity and warmth suit it far better than the fluctuations of open-room growing.

Give it bright, indirect light, a well-draining, humus-rich mix, and consistent moisture without waterlogging. Like other Bornean Petermannia-section Begonia, it prefers the kind of stable, humid microclimate found in a well-managed terrarium over open-air home growing.

Its cross-border distribution spanning both Kalimantan and Sarawak makes it a useful reference point for the shared Begonia diversity found across Borneo's political boundaries — a genuinely recent scientific addition for collectors following current Bornean botanical work.
