Anubias Barteri Broad Leaf
Anubias Barteri Broad Leaf
Anubias Barteri Broad Leaf is a striking variant of the classic Anubias barteri, distinguished by its exceptionally wide, paddle-shaped leaves that create bold visual impact in any aquarium. The leaves are a rich, glossy dark green and grow significantly larger than standard Anubias barteri, making this plant a natural focal point in planted tanks and aquascapes.
Planting tip: Never bury the rhizome in substrate — Anubias Barteri Broad Leaf should always be attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape with the rhizome fully exposed. Use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Like all Anubias, the Broad Leaf variety is extraordinarily easy to care for. It tolerates low lighting, a wide pH range, and temperatures from 72 to 82°F. CO₂ injection is not required, though supplementation alongside regular liquid fertilization will encourage more vigorous growth and lusher foliage.
Anubias Barteri Broad Leaf should be attached to hardscape rather than planted in substrate. The large leaves of this variety suit attachment to substantial pieces of driftwood or rock formations where the broad, textured foliage has room to be displayed properly. Never bury the rhizome, which will lead to rot regardless of substrate type.
In the aquascape, the large leaves create shelter and resting spots for fish, making it particularly popular in community tanks with cichlids, discus, and large tetras. The bold foliage contrasts beautifully with fine-leaved plants like Rotala and Ludwigia, adding a sense of scale and structure to the layout. A true classic that never goes out of style.
