Philodendron Splendin is a hybrid cross between Philodendron melanochrysum, the Colombian "Black Gold" species with dark, velvety foliage, and Philodendron verrucosum, the Ecuador Philodendron known for velvety heart-shaped leaves with bright, neon-green forking veins and burgundy leaf undersides. The cross generally combines the dark, rich leaf color of melanochrysum with the more dramatic vein contrast of verrucosum.

Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.

Care tip: Verrucosum genetics bring real humidity sensitivity into this cross — keep humidity consistently high rather than letting it swing, since verrucosum-line hybrids are considered fussier than straight melanochrysum.

Give it bright, indirect light, a chunky, well-draining aroid mix, and a moss pole to climb — both parent species are vining climbers that produce larger, more dramatic foliage when given vertical support. Water once the top inch of soil has dried, and maintain high, stable humidity.
