Unicorn Tetra
Unicorn Tetra
Unicorn Tetra (Erythrocharax altipinnis) is a rarely seen and unusual tetra from the Rio Orinoco drainage — the tall, high dorsal fin of males creates a unicorn horn-like profile that inspired the evocative common name. A distinctive collector species.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the Orinoco drainage — soft, slightly acidic water. Rarely available in the hobby with collector appeal.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The high dorsal fin of males is most impressive in well-conditioned fish. Peaceful community tetra.
A rare and distinctive tetra — the dramatic high dorsal fin and rarity make it a find for dedicated collectors.
