Crystal Tetra
Crystal Tetra
Crystal Tetra (Protocheirodon pi) is a remarkable glass-like tetra — almost entirely transparent, with internal organs faintly visible and the body appearing to be made of living crystal. The species name pi references the mathematical constant — used as a species name for this unusual fish. A genuine blackwater specialist from the Rio Negro.
Feeding & Care Tip: Hikari Micro Pellets (crushed or soaked) and Sera Vipan Baby make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp and Hikari Frozen Daphnia. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily in a calm environment.
Native to the Rio Negro drainage in Brazil — extremely soft, acidic, tannin-stained blackwater. The transparency is an adaptation to the dark blackwater environment.
Keep in groups of at least 8. A blackwater specialist requiring soft acidic water with tannins. Peaceful and compatible with other blackwater nano species.
One of the most transparent freshwater fish available — the crystal body is a blackwater adaptation that creates a genuinely extraordinary-looking nano fish.
